Love of Don Perlimplin with Belisa in his Garden
by

Federico Garcia Lorca

The play "Love of Don Perlimplín ..." was adapted with the objective of recreating Lorca's original conception for the show, inspired by the Aleluia Theatre of his childhood and at the same time to celebrate this poet, accused of immorality, betrayed by his friends and killed by Franco's political police.

For the first time in Portugal, this play was produced with part of the partiture that Federico create for his show, and that it was possible to put together thanks to the work of Gustavo Pitaluga of collecting, along with the poets sisters, Concha and Isabel.

"Victim of apparent intrigues, inexplicable losses of successive manuscripts; persecuted by the police and held for years accused of immorality; published in the shadow of this poet greatest works, "Love of Don Perlimplín ..." is without a doubt a key work in the production of Lorca.
"This "Love of Don Perlimplín..." reveals it self like a real pleasure, because of the beautiful puppets - truly pieces of art - created by the company. Excellent voices and a very good puppet manipulation that gives to the characters real life, all this makes this show a tribute to spontaneity and creativity". Pedro Teixeira Neves (Newspaper Semanário, 7/12/96).
"These characteristics - humor and the unmistakable poetry of Lorca - are present in this production of Tarumba, a group that has been remarkable by their puppet manipulation, creating shows of high level". Manuel João Gomes (Newspaper Público, 6/2/97).
Don Perlimplín "reveilles an interesting way of producing a kind of puppet theatre that makes the link between tradition and contemporary art. Especially the scenography and the action of the puppets are of a high level". Freek Neirynck, Europees Figurenteatercentrum.
